DUSSEHRA - A FESTIVAL OF HINDUS
Dussehra is also known as "Vijayadashami",
which means the victory of good over evil. As we all know that there are many
festivals in India. There are festivals in every month and each festival has
its own importance and the story behind it. Dussehra also has a story which is
as follows: -
In 14 years of exile, Lord Rama, Goddess Sita and Lord
Lakshman were living in a hut in a forest. One day Sita saw a deer and she
wanted to take it, but it was not found, she called her husband and said that
she wanted the deer to be brought here for him. Lord Rama was also going with
Lord Rama. Laxman drew a line around the hut and asked him not to cross the
line. A deer illusion was created by Ravana to kidnap Sita and marry her.
Ravana was the king of Lanka. He came to Sita in
disguise of a saint and forced Sita to cross Lakshmanrekha. He then kidnaps her
and goes to Lanka with Sita on Garuda. Sita was bringing down the jewels. Let
her husband find her.
When Rama came to know about this, he was completely
shocked. He chased Jewel. And he can't do it alone. Lord Hanuman was also
staying with him. Lord Hanuman created an army of monkeys. And on the beach,
Lord Hanuman said that 'Ram' should be written on the stone. And threw it into
the sea and became known as the Palk Strait (Rama Setu).
Then Lord Rama starts the war. Lord Rama killed Ravana
and brought Sita back. Lord Hanuman destroyed Lanka with fire. This event is
known as Dussehra. People made effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad.
People burn effigies. The biggest Ramlila is held at Ramlila Ground in New
Delhi. We swear that we will burn our evil thoughts in the effigies of evil.
